There are many different models for e-campaigning. Each model has tools that make working with that model possible, easier and/or more effective. Each of these tools have different capabilities.

This comparison of tool functionality can help with understand each tools's strengths, weaknesses and gaps. From this, we can identify where to strengthen each tool.

What is a campaign?

A campaign is generally a range of activities that are all intended to contribute to the same result.

From a 'tool' point of view, associating activities with a campaign would allow:

  • Generating a campaign timeline with activities and achievements
  • Generating an activity journal of what any individual has participated in per campaign and what other things they could do that supports that campaign
  • Reporting on the progress of a campaign

What is an action?

An action is something people (not just existing supporters) who support a campaign are asked to participate in. It can be an action on a website or via email (e-action) or an offline action like make a phone call, attend an event, write and post a physical letter, collect petition signatures on paper, etc.

For actions with multiple organisations (coalition) or in multiple countries, actions can have multiple editions that are all part of the same initiative, but may differ slightly in terms of target, language, wording, fields, etc.
