At the last eCampaigning Forum there was talk of the need for an e-campaigning backend infrastructure and how this could be delivered with open source.

This group would explore what open source tools for e-campaigning are out there, what is needed and if there is a willingness to cooperate on investing in the development of this shared resource.

One of the quickest (if more complicated!) ways of generating community knowledge, I love the idea of talking practically about Open Sourcing. Keep it on the agenda!!

I think there's a lot to win on specific data sets (like the GeoRosetta? database of location information, and we're facing the incompleteness of Google maps) and joint open standards (what are the most pressing needs in data exchange?). Likewise, a good SMS infrastructure or phone systems like EventPhone? can help at events and mobilisations, to reach people or to bring down costs of communication. (These are not even NGO-specific...) Maybe also link this to the "movement as a network" thinking to come towards clearer roles to take on? -Rolf.
