Accommodation

Oxford Transportation

  • Oxford public transport is very good - so the directions by bus mentioned on Oxfam's site are fine
  • Taxis/Cabs are relatively cheap compared to London due to the short distances and even cheaper if you share the cost with others! Taxi City's phone number is: 01865 794 000 and Taxi Royal's phone number is 01865 777 333. There are other companies in oxford, but these two are the largest and thus most likely to be able to send a cab when you call. See the Oxford Daily Info page on taxis for more info

For International travellers

  • The closest airports are London Heathrow (LHR) or Birmingham International (BHX) . There is direct bus to Oxford.
  • Birmingham International is supposed to be good (direct train) but I have never tried it.
  • Other London Gatwick (LGW) is also OK (longer travel): London Stansted (STN) is 4 hours bus travel (no direct connections, lots of changes) despite being only 90 minutes drive. London Luton (LTN) is probably in between Stansted and Gatwick for convience. London City Airport (LCY) is also a chose for short flights.
