Lesley is a freelance process facilitator for community development.

She is Co-founder and Director of Africa++, an organization that facilitates collaborative action for Africa’s development. She is part of the core leadership team of Pioneers of Change and an Unfolding Cards Associate.

The focus of Lesley’s work in the past 6 years has been to build inclusive communities where decision making occurs through broad participation. She has coordinated events, conceptualized and facilitated learning programmes, hosted workshops and chaired conferences across sectors with the aim of building relationships across diversity and developing the personal leadership capabilities of individuals to respond to societal and organizational issues. She has worked and lived in the United Kingdom and South Africa and has both worked, participated in and delivered workshops in Brazil, Germany, the Republic of Ireland and Zimbabwe.

Lesley obtained her BCom (Industrial Psychology) degree from the University of Johannesburg, and is an accredited trainer with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). 

She has a background in AIESEC and Toastmasters and has done work for the Gordon Institute of Business Science, Common Purpose, Siyavuma, National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, The Hub, FairSay, SA Business Club, South African Women in Dialogue, and Pioneers of Change.

Sofia is an experienced ‘deep community building’ practitioner and social technology innovator with over 15 years experience of working with social processes.

As a practitioner, she specialises in balancing both individual and group development, supporting groups to develop their own culture toward conflict and sustainable living. She has worked with hundreds of individuals and many organisations as a mediator, facilitator, coach and therapist. She speaks regularly on the topic of leadership outside authority,

As a social technology innovator she pioneers techniques in collaboration; bridging the online/offline divide, generating a range of holistic peer-development tools to support network-based change organizations. Her holistic coaching model for personal transformation, 6-day training course for coaches, and the guerrilla-style group-mentoring workshops are all aimed at social interveners intent on changing the planet.

Sofia is co-founder of The Melanin Partnership (www.melaninpartnership.com), a Brixton-based think-do tank addressing the societal need to strengthen the fragile sense of community in urban settings through constant participatory-led innovation and implementation.

Recent examples of her work include facilitating the World Café at the annual “Be The Change” conference, and designing a systems-based approach to transforming youth gang culture in South London.

Sofia has a Masters in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, London.
